Iran Slams Grossi over ‘Political’ Remarks beyond IAEA Mandate

The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman criticized director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency for making political and non-technical remarks unrelated to the agency’s professional mandate.

In a message posted on his X account on Sunday, Esmaeil Baqaei said the IAEA’s responsibility is limited to verification activities and does not extend to political commentary on other issues.

“The IAEA’s mandate is verification, not political messaging about the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s missiles, or how Tehran should conduct itself,” the spokesperson said.

“When professional impartiality is compromised for political signaling or personal ambition, institutions erode their credibility — and, over time, their effectiveness as well,” Baqaei added.
