Islamabad: Despite Recent Tensions, We Remain Optimistic About an Agreement
Pakistan issued a statement on Thursday emphasizing that despite recent regional escalations, it remains optimistic about a potential agreement and will never abandon its efforts to mediate a breakthrough between Iran and the United States.
Tahir Andrabi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, released a statement today following military strikes in Kuwait and Bahrain, urging all involved parties to exercise the highest level of restraint. The ministry added that following the recent surge in friction, it hopes both sides will remain committed to the ceasefire framework.
As reported by Al Jazeera, Islamabad concurrently stressed that if military escalation persists and the window for dialogue and diplomacy narrows further, significant obstacles will impede the path toward reaching an agreement. Nevertheless, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson concluded by asserting that his country will forge ahead with its diplomatic endeavors with an optimistic spirit and will never lose hope due to recent events.
The statement comes after recent military aggressions by the United States military against Iran's territorial integrity and sovereignty in the south, which prompted Iran's armed forces to target the launchpoints of those aggressions.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait was targeted by missile and drone strikes, triggering sirens across several areas of Kuwait. Concurrently, the headquarters of the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet came under heavy missile and drone assaults launched by the IRGC Aerospace Force.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) detailed the operations in an official statement released on Wednesday night: "Late last night, the aggressive U.S. military targeted an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz with an aerial projectile, causing structural damage to the tanker's engine room. In swift retaliation for this aggression and the violation of maritime regulations in the Strait of Hormuz, a vessel belonging to the American-Zionist adversary named Panaya was successfully targeted by IRGC Navy missiles."
The statement further noted that following a subsequent American aggression—in which U.S. forces targeted an IRGC communications tower south of Qeshm Island with aerial projectiles—the IRGC Aerospace Force launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes against a U.S. air and helicopter base located in one of the regional countries, as well as the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters.
The IRGC statement concluded with a stern warning: "We have previously warned that any aggression would receive a fundamentally different and heavier response, and we acted precisely on that promise. These responses must serve as a lesson. We reiterate that disrupting the security of the Strait of Hormuz will carry a heavy price for the aggressive military forces of the United States."
