Iravani:
Situation in Strait of Hormuz and its economic consequences lie with war initiators and their partners
Iran's UN Ambassador stated that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz and its global economic consequences lie solely and exclusively with the initiators of the war against Iran and their regional partners.
The text of the speech by Amir Saeid Iravani, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, at the Special Meeting of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) titled "Safeguarding Energy Flows and Supply: Supporting Global Development Through International Cooperation" is as follows:
"The growing instability in energy markets, supply chains, and global trade flows poses a serious challenge to sustainable development, international cooperation, and global economic stability.
Within this framework, Iran has suffered damages in two profound and interconnected ways. In less than a year, my country has been the target of two illegal acts of aggression that flagrantly violated the UN Charter and international law. These attacks resulted in the tragic loss of thousands of innocent civilian lives, particularly women and children. They also caused widespread destruction of civilian, economic, energy, and environmentally sensitive infrastructure—consequences that will not disappear with the end of military operations.
Mr. President,
Perhaps the most crucial question facing this special meeting is not only how to respond to the current crisis, but to honestly ask what the true roots of these crises and rising instabilities are? Let me briefly point to some of the realities that lie at the heart of the current crises.
First: The current instability did not emerge in a vacuum. This situation is rooted in the military escalation and illegal acts of aggression imposed by the Israeli regime and the United States of America. These actions have escalated tensions in one of the world's most strategic energy and trade regions, undermining regional and global stability.
Second: The direct attacks against Iran's oil, gas, and petrochemical infrastructure have inflicted severe economic and environmental damages on the Persian Gulf region. These attacks have also disrupted global energy and fertilizer supply chains, carrying serious implications for food security and agricultural production worldwide.
Third: Unilateral sanctions, coercive measures, and the naval blockade imposed by the U.S. have further disrupted global supply chains and increased instability in energy and commodity markets.
Fourth: Sustainable regional security is achieved not through confrontation or reliance on foreign powers, but solely through dialogue, mutual respect, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and genuine regional and international cooperation.
Iran remains committed to constructive engagement and efforts to restore stability, energy security, and return the Strait of Hormuz to normal conditions, provided that the aggression and military escalation cease and the naval blockade is lifted.
As a final point, Mr. President: Peace cannot be achieved through pressure, and stability cannot be built through confrontation. The only sustainable path forward is dialogue, mutual respect, and genuine international cooperation. We explicitly declare that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz and its global economic consequences lie solely and exclusively with the initiators of the war against Iran and their regional partners."
